Most waterfalls and hot springs are in and around Soufriere (southwestern side of the island). A small fee is required to visit many of these sites:
Sulphur Springs Volcano (hot). One of the most well known St. Lucia attractions! The Sulphur Springs is touted as the "world's only drive in volcano"; it is located in the southwestern side of the island, near Soufrière (French for place from which sulfur is produced)
Sapphire Falls, Sulphur Springs Access Rd, Malgretoute, Soufriere, at the entrance of the Sulphur Springs volcano in Soufriere. A 40-minute hike to a beautiful warm waterfall in a forest, with a man-made “hot tub” and natural mud and clap packs.
New Jerusalem Mineral Baths (hot) Naturally warm mineral springs that feeds 3 warm pools and 1 cold pool surrounded by beautiful, lush vegetation. It is well worth the short easy 10 minute walk from the road to the springs.
Piton Falls (hot) Jalousie Plantation Roadway, Soufriere. This very small warm waterfall has a deep walking trail and steps leading down to the falls and a nice pool areas to just relax and listen to the falls. It’s an average waterfall but good for cute pictures!
A nature trail and walkways leads you through the lush greens and dazzling colors of this charmingly landscaped garden. You can take a refreshing bath under the small waterfall. You can walk the short distance for a dip in the man-modified plunge pool or kill more time walking around the small botanical garden on the property.
Outside of Soufriere, you will find the Saltibus Waterfall, the Fond Joyeux Waterfall near Vieux Fort, Fond Waterfall on the East Coast, and River Rock and Canaries Waterfall on the West Coast. Do not try to find these on your own, ask us how to book a tour. Latille Waterfall on the East Coast is easily accessible by rental car, and offers a lovely deep pool for swimming and a friendly and knowledgeable owner who gets his electricity from a hydro system.
Hiking Trails -
Tet Paul Nature Trail in Soufriere is one of our favorite St. Lucia attractions and we think everyone should visit it. It is an easy 40 minute walk with magnificent views of the Pitons and the South of the island.
The Gros Piton has a trail with steps almost all the way, but you will feel your legs the next day if you’re not someone who exercises daily. Both are well worth the trip!
Gros Piton and Petit Piton trails must be done with an official guide and cost US$ 35 – 50 per person. Both take around 4-5 hours round trip with stops, but Petit Piton is a little more challenging because there are some very steep areas where you have to hang onto ropes or trees. Contact the Tour Guide Association directly: grospitontours@candw.lc Tel: (758) 459-9748 or 459-9748 or 489-0136).
Viewing Points
There are great views all throughout the island, but in the south, check out the Moule a Chique View Point & Lighthouse in Vieux Fort and the Morne le Blanc View Point in Laborie.
Rainforest Trails-
The St Lucia Forestry Department maintains the following trails within the islands protected forest reserve. You must call ahead to schedule a tour with an official guide. The trails range from moderate to challenging, don’t miss out on this unique attraction!
Descartiers Rainforest Trail (East) En Bas Saut Rainforest Trail (West) Edmund Forest Rainforest Trail (West) Barre de L’isle Rainforest Trail (North) Millet Bird Sanctuary (North) Piton Flore Trail (North).
Snorkeling -
Some of the best snorkeling in St. Lucia and the Caribbean can be found in front of the Anse Chastanet beach. The Anse Chastanet reef has been recognized as one of the best snorkeling and beach diving locations in the Caribbean. The shallow reefs allow even the beginner snorkeler to enjoy the Anse Chastanet Reef.
Kite and wind surfing is offered by Kite Surfing St. Lucia at Cas en bas beach in the North, and at The Reef Beach Café and Kite Surf Center at Anse de Sable (Sandy Beach) right next to Hewannora International Airport in the South.
Scuba Diving
Most of the diving around St. Lucia takes place in the Soufriere Marine Reserve to the island’s south. Here divers will find colorful coral reefs and a variety of tropical fish. Popular dives include Anse Chastanet, Fairy Land and Coral Gardens. There are also a handful of dive sites off the northwest coast of Saint Lucia. These sites tend to be less crowded but offer the same types of tropical fish seen in the reserve. Because the north is subject to stronger currents, larger species including rays are seen in this area more often than in the south.
There are three dive operators in Soufriere: Action Adventure and Scuba Steve’s, the dive center at Sugar Beach Resort, and Scuba St. Lucia at the Anse Chastanet Resort. Further north, there is the Ti Kaye Resort Dive Center at Anse Cochon, near Anse la Raye.
Kayaking & paddle boarding can be done at The Reef in Vieux Fort and at Sugar beach in Soufriere. Kayak St. Lucia and Jungle Reef Adventures are based at Anse Chastanet resort and also offer diving and mountain biking. DFH Kayaking offers tours out of Marigot Bay.
Parasailing, water skiing and jet skis are more difficult to find, unless you are staying in Rodney Bay or at a resort which offers it.
The Splash Island Waterpark at Reduit Beach in Rodney Bay offers fun for the whole family.
There are many boat and catamaran tours offered, here are just a few: Number one on the list is Jus' Sail. For a really authentic and intimate sailing experience, JusSail is it! They are St. Lucia's top rated traditional private sailing charter company. Get married, renew your vows or just sail on the Good Expectation. Contact Pepsi or James at www.jussail.com to make a reservation.
Mystic Man out of Soufriere and Nerv’s Catamaran out of Laborie, Endless Summer Cruises, Spencer Ambrose Boat Tours, and Hackshaws Boat Charters are a few that are highly acclaimed.
